10/3 lineup

I needed to search through my inbox for next Saturday's lineup so I thought I'd save the rest of y'all the trouble. Here it is--

Sat. 10/3 v. Keay--12 noon @ Bryn Mawr:
Robin & Patti
Jean & Cindy
Donna & Michelle

See you there!
Jean

We're in districts!!!

Hi all-- Jean here again, as Sara wasn't able to be at the match today and Jane demurred on putting together the writeup of today's match.

So the long & short of it is, we beat Rogers today 2-1, which clinches 1st place in the league for us, with a 6-2 record. The second-place team, Keay, came on strong at the end but is currently 4-4 and so even though we play them next weekend, it is mathematically impossible for them to surpass us in the standings. So be ready for Frederick in a couple of weeks!

We really needed this win today, and despite some nailbiting moments, the team delivered. Here are the scores:

#1: Sue Lin and Mary Ellen played a 2+ hour match this afternoon, defeating Wendy Lou Day and Regina Kakadelis in straight but very close sets, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5).

#2: Jane & I had an easier time vs. Bonnie Thomas & Karen Williams, making some adjustments after being down 1-3 in the first set to take the match fairly easily, 6-3 6-3.

#3: Michelle & Donna lost today in the 3rd set tiebreak to Carole Morris & Liz Deford, 6-1 3-6 0-1 (6-10).

This has been a very competitive, fun league this season, and all the matches have been close. Luckily, we ended up coming out on top more often than not! So kudos to everyone on the win, and let's beat Keay next Saturday to really seal the deal. In the meantime, I'm sure Sara will be in touch with details about the district tournament in Frederick the weekend of 10/9-11. Yay team!

Words of the day, tie breaker!

Sorry for the delay on this one had a little trouble getting into post but we are all set now.

Saturday was a beautiful day to play tennis and we were fortunate enough to pull out 3-0 win but it sure was not easy. We were up against Duffy who only had 2 losses which happened to both be to us. And it was a hard fought win, here are the details...

On court #1 we had Robin and Patti who are proving to be a solid team up against Janice Dent and Michelle Rosenstein. Although I only saw the second half of the match it was great, we took the 1st set 6-4 and in the second we went down swinging losing in a tie break 7-4. It was a nail biter in the 10 point tie break with us winning 10-8. There were some truly masterful points, great job.

On court #2 perseverance was the name of the game Katharine and Cindy came back in the first set after being down I believe 4-1 to win it in a tie break (7-3). IN the second which I was having trouble getting the score most the time they were battling it out back and forth going to 6-5 but unable to get the last game end went to another tie break winning that one 7-0. Oh yeah sorry they were playing Farrah Duffy and Jennifer Korczakowski.

On court #3 there was a little less excitement with Jane and myself getting the match by Karen Sellinger having to retire due to back trouble. We had been up in the first set 4-1 and ended up getting to 6-6 and winning it in the tie break (7-3). When trying to start the second set Karen decided she was unable to move around and was going to retire, Tina Turk was her partner.

It was very nice playing team Duffy as they had great spirit and were out o have fun and enjoy the game.

So kudos to all for pulling out this match and lets see if we can clench first place this Saturday against Rogers as they gave us a tough match last time winning 2-1. Go team!!!!

We Beat Keay! (Hold 1st Place)

What a great day to be a spectator to the team WIN! We were up against Keay who had beat us in the first round and we were able to pull out a win this time. There were some really great match-ups here and wonderful points to watch. The summary...

Court #1 we had Robin and Patti up against Janis Schlerf and Lisa Vieria. The first set was a quick one at 6-1 our team. The second set was a little tougher after it was discovered our team had inadvertently changed up sides to start the second set and thus had to continue that way losing, 5-7. In the tie break we ended up with a 10-4 win. As this was the easier match to watch, as it was the closet, it was a real pleasure to see some of the wonderful points played by both teams.

On court #2 were Jean and Cindy playing Brooke Ingram and Deanna Sandstrom. For me it was watching an exact replay of Mary Ellen and I who were matched up against the same team. Jean and Cindy lost the first set lose 4-6 but were able to come back in the second set from a 4-1 deficit and win 6-4. In the tie break they were up but took a few point losses in a row and in the end sneaked it out 10-8.

Finally on court #3 Katharine and Debbie played Jill Taylor and Sharon Gardner. Hard to watch this one so far away but it was easy to see there were some very tight points and games and was a fairly even match up. We were unable to pull this one out though at 6-2, 6-3.

Wonderful play by all today despite the drizzly conditions at times. Thanks to Sue Lin and Brian (Katharine's husband) for coming to cheer the team on.

Next week we are back up against Duffy/Amoyal, 9am at Bryn Mawr, line up below

Robin and Patti
Sara and Mary Ellen
Katharine and Cindy

FYI we are holding first place and may have the opportunity to head to districts. I will be sending out info on that via email.

Still in 1st

It is now official all teams have posted from last night and we are still in 1st with Duffy 2nd and Keay falling to 3rd. Lets hope the R&R this weekend pays off with a good go at a win next Saturday.

Ouch!

After a hard fought first round against team Rogers the second round did not go as well, we lost last night 2-1. At the time of this post no teams had put up their results yet from last night so I am not sure if we will maintain our 1st place edge over team Keay. I will leave it up to all of you to check in to tennislink at your leisure to see where we stand. Now the match summary...

At #1 was Donna and Patti playing Whedbee Hillis and Liz Depford. The irony here is that this was the same match up from round one with Rogers however, both teams for that match were playing at #3. Donna and Patti, a strong pair, handled them as well as they had the first go round and won, 6-3, 6-2.

On court #2 we had Sue Lin and Mary Ellen who had a (2-0 together) against Connie Rogers and Adrienne Birkenbach. During warm-up we discovered that Mary Ellen had been nursing a muscle pull and she realized it was not a 100%. She realized pretty quick that it was going to be a bit tough playing. She and Sue worked hard, coming back from 1-4 in the second for a tough loss, 7-5, 7-5. Heal up Ellen!

Last but not least Debbie and I were on court #3 against Karen Williams and Bonnie Thomas. Debbie and I improved from our first time playing together but unfortunately could not pull out the win, 7-5, 6-2. I don't think there was more than 2 games that did not go to deuce with many going through several deuce points. Like court 2 we played into the dark and seeing became a bit of an issue.

So it is onto Saturday only matches and I hope everybody enjoys their Labor day holiday!

Please be sure to double check the line-ups for our up coming matches and let me know if there will be any conflict in your playing when scheduled, thank you!
