Hi everyone-- Jean here. Thought I'd post something since I was at the match yesterday & Sara wasn't. Well, after our tough loss on Wednesday, where we got swept by Keay, we had a sweep of our own yesterday vs. Duffy. Not only that, but we won all 3 matches in straight sets! At #1, Sue Lin & Mary Ellen handled Julie Dunaway & KC Murphy, 7-5 6-3. At #2, Robin & Michelle even more easily handled Jen Korczawewobuskd (sp?) and Jeanne Mirchin, 6-1 7-5. And in the longest match of the day, Jean & Jane managed to get the straight-set win despite being down 5-2 in the second set, defeating Alice Trosch & Farah Duffy, 6-4 7-5. We ended up having to play at Bare Hills because the Bryn Mawr courts were just this side of being too wet for play, but it all worked out, obviously!
We're now back in 1st place, but Keay is, as Sara said, storming up the ranks. Currently we are tied with them in terms of individual matches won (7), sets won (11), and have actually lost *more* games than they have (104 to their 92). The key stat that is keeping us ahead of them is that we've won more team matches, with a 3-1 record vs. their 2-2 record. So go TEAM! YEAH!

Lineups for 9/12, 9/19, 9/26
I have listed below the line-ups for our matches on 9/12, 9/19, and 9/26 as always how we play them is subject to change. Please let me know if you can not play on a day I have you scheduled. I have left 10/3 flexible for the time being as it is our last match and it is against Keay which we just had a hard lose to and I would like to see where we are at that point before putting a line-up together. To those of you playing tomorrow good luck as I will not be there.

Wow what a night for our team. The good news is we are holding at 2nd place right now with Duffy (who we played in round one and beat and play again this Saturday) just ahead of us in first. Team Keay which we played last night is coming up from behind and boy are they tough. This is where the bad news comes, we lost 3-0 to them last night. My theory is they were gunning for us and brought out their best players. We fought hard but couldn't pull it out, details...
One court one we had Robin and Michelle up against Joan Garlow and Betty Lee for a 6-3, 6-3 loss. Since I was playing I don't have lots of detail but I was told it was hard fought. Side note that Joan is really at a 4.0 level making for tough competition there.
Court two was Donna and Jane against Jeanine Keay and Lisa Vieria who were reported to have made very few errors handing us a 6-2, 6-1 loss.
Finally on court three was Mary Ellen and myself against Brooke Ingram and Deanna Sandstrom playing the nights longest match well into the darkening hours. We lost the first set in a close 6-4 score. In the second set we were down 4-1 and were able to come back and win 6-4. However with us barely able to see the ball and still fighting we could not pull out the tie breaker third set and lost it 10-7.
Now on a separate note does anyone know the answer to the following scenario which occurred last night. I tried to find it in the USTA rule book but could not...our team had been warming up on court 3 prior to the matches. I had to leave court 3 to exchange team line-ups and upon my return to the court their #3 team was at the court and ready to go. They asked if we wanted to continue a warm-up and we said yes. They then said would you like to spin for serve now and we said sure. We lost the spin and they elected to serve. We had been standing on one side of the court which we then stayed on for the warm-up. Here is where it gets a bit tricky...after getting a quick drink and then ready to start the match, I said "we select side and we will take this side" (the side they were on) and Brooke snaps up with "you already picked your side" and I said "no we had not" and shes said "you picked it after the spin when you walked over to the side you are on". Deanna said "they didn't verbalize a side though" and Brooke said that didn't matter the rule was we selected when we walked to the side after the spin for serve. I was a little peeved about the issue and am wondering who was right...anyone know?

9/2 Line-up

Win #2
After looking at the weather this morning we made a decision to take things indoors to Greenspring to be sure to get the match in.
Let me tell you, spectating is very stressful but at the same time very fun and in this instance rewarding as we put our second "W" under our belts. Jean and Debbie played a real tough team of Adrienne Birkenbach and Regina Kakadelis. I had a hard time figuring out which of their players was the 3.0 and which was the 3.5. In the second set there were some points that made think I was sitting at the US Open. Unfortunately we didn't pull this one out losing, 6-1, 6-3.
In the #2 slot were Katharine and Michelle playing together for the first time against Sydney Hopkins and Karen Williams. The match up was very even and the score shows that, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0. let me tell ya I had to walk away on that 3rd set tie break (12-10), but we pulled it out after a tough battle.
On court 3 was Donna and Patti who also were playing together for the first time and they pulled out an easy win at 6-3, 6-1. Donna was as consistent as ever and look out cause Patti has a real nice game as a 3.0 player, great job ladies!
Thanks to all today for being so flexible and accommodating with the move to indoors. Lets see if we can keep the win streak up on Wednesday against Keay.

Great news all, after last evenings match against Duffy/Amoyal we are first place in the league (check it out on Tennislink).
Under some very humid but breezy conditions we were able to pull out 2 W's and had one lose. First the wins...Jean and Jane playing at #2 had a relatively comfortable win of 6-6, 6-1, over Karen Sellinger and Christina Gaardner. They admittedly had a slight advantage on their opponents with one of them having a bad back. However the bad back lead to lots of lobs to be mangaed, well done ladies. Sue Lin and Mary Ellen at #3 playing for the first time together had a blazing first set win at 6-0 and then pulled a tough one off in the second at 7-6 (7-4) against Sheryl Amoyal and Julie Dunaway. The lose goes to myself and Debbie at #1. After finding out Debbie had gone to Bryn Mawr she must have broken a few laws to get herself from there to St. Tims in 10 minutes. We started down 2 games but clawed our way back to 5-4 but ended up losing the set 6-4. The second set we also started out very slow and never pulled it all together and lost it 6-2.
We are off to a great start so let's keep up the positive momentum!
